Biography

Jessica Plant studies the art and archaeology of the ancient Mediterranean with a focus on Roman and Late Antiquity. Her research interests include the social and cultural dimensions of architecture, ornament, and craft production; cross-cultural and cross-craft interactions in the ancient Mediterranean; materiality and pre-modern media; the history of archaeology; and the archaeology of religion and domestic space. She is currently examining the impact of Roman architectural surfaces in antiquity 鈥 how they were crafted, maintained, and 鈥榗onsumed鈥 鈥 as well as their varied afterlives.

Before joining Clare as a Research Fellow, Jessica Plant received her PhD from Cornell University in the History of Art and Archaeology in 2023, and MAs from Cornell in the History of Art and Archaeology (2019) and Archaeology (2017). She earned her BA, summa cum laude, in Classical Civilizations and Near Eastern Studies and Art History from the University of Minnesota (2015). Her research has been supported by the Cyprus American Archaeological Research Institute, the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, and the Kress Foundation.
